I created CA Homeschool Hub to make homeschooling in California easier to understand through practical tools, straightforward guides, honest comparisons, and resources that help parents make informed decisions.

My Story

I never planned to homeschool.

Never in a million years did I think I would end up homeschooling all four of my children.

Like many families, our journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic.

My oldest daughter was getting ready to start kindergarten when schools were opening, closing, and changing plans almost every week. At the same time, I had a six-month-old baby at home. I was pumping, breastfeeding, taking care of a newborn, and trying to keep life together with two other young children.

I remember thinking, “How am I supposed to send my daughter into all of this?”

So I decided to homeschool her for kindergarten.

At the time, I knew almost nothing about homeschooling.

I didn’t know charter schools existed.

I didn’t know educational funding was available.

I didn’t know about enrichment centers.

I didn’t know about curriculum vendors.

I didn’t know about any of it.

The only homeschool option I knew was filing a Private School Affidavit (PSA), so that’s exactly what I did.

At the time, I honestly didn’t even know charter schools accepted kindergarten students.

That entire kindergarten year, I spent countless hours reading Facebook groups, searching Google, watching YouTube videos, and trying to understand a completely new world.

It honestly felt like learning a new language.

Every answer led to ten more questions.

Then, when my daughter was getting ready for first grade, I discovered California homeschool charter schools.

That decision completely changed my homeschooling journey.

Suddenly I was learning about Educational Specialists, educational funding, purchase orders, approved vendors, curriculum reimbursements, enrichment programs, and homeschooling resources that I never knew existed.

It was another learning curve—but it also opened up opportunities I didn’t know were available.

As I became more involved in the homeschool community, I noticed something over and over again.

Parents were asking the same questions.

  • “Which charter school should I choose?”
  • “How much funding does each charter offer?”
  • “Can I use my funds for this curriculum?”
  • “What’s the difference between a PSA, a PSP, and a charter school?”

The answers were everywhere.

Some information was buried inside Facebook groups.

Some was scattered across dozens of charter websites.

Some was hidden inside lengthy parent handbooks.

Some came directly from conversations with other homeschool parents.

There wasn’t one place where parents could easily compare everything.

That’s when I realized I wasn’t the only one feeling overwhelmed.

That’s also when the idea for CA Homeschool Hub was born.

I wanted to build the website I wish I had when I first started homeschooling.

A place where parents could compare homeschool options without spending weeks researching.

A place where they could quickly understand the differences between a Private School Affidavit (PSA), a Private Satellite Program (PSP), an Independent Study Program, and a homeschool charter school.

I wanted parents to compare funding in one place instead of opening twenty browser tabs, so I created the Charter Funding Center and the Compare California Homeschool Charters page.

I also wanted parents to find enrichment opportunities without spending hours searching Facebook groups or dozens of websites, which is why I built the Enrichment Directory.

I wanted families to spend less time searching and more time teaching their children.

That’s also why you’ll find practical tools throughout this website.

One thing that’s very important to me is transparency.

Whenever information comes directly from an official source, I’ll tell you.

Whenever something is based on community experience, homeschool parent feedback, or my own experience, I’ll tell you that too.

Whenever possible, I also encourage parents to verify important information through the California Department of Education (CDE). I believe parents deserve to know where information comes from so they can make informed decisions for their own families.

Today, I’ve homeschooled my first child, then my second, then my third, and soon I’ll begin homeschooling my fourth.

Looking back, I realized I wasn’t building the website I wanted.

I was building the website I needed.

The website I wish someone had handed me on my very first day.

Simple explanations.

Honest comparisons.

Trusted resources.

And information that helps parents make confident, informed decisions.
